A new circular logo for Levitation was needed as a design element for merch and for the commemorative posters. I needed to create something that fit the retrofuturist, sci-fi aesthetic that the brand has, while being simple and cohesive. We put together visual elements and a piece of past merch from 10 years ago to draw inspiration from.
My initial attempt for this was based on a napkin sketch. I was having difficulty with this piece, so I left it as a rough draft and moved onto pins, which had a much sooner deadline. My plan was to get something working for an arch shaped pin that I could later translate to this basic idea.
I had a vision in my mind for a while of a stepped pyramid looked at on a 45 degree angle rotating and floating up into space, section by section. I opened Blender 3D and built a simple one, messed with camera location and FOV and got a basic wireframe looking pyramid. I used this to make a rough draft for a potential pin/patch.

I used a modified version of "Grommet" a font I found online that seemed to fit the style I had envisioned. I would further modify and remake the letterforms as vectors point by point in illustrator.
I continued to further iterate on these pyramids, and after remaking it in blender to be more simple, I found a result that worked for me. I vectorized this image and started putting together a potential arch pin/patch.

These designs were not used. However I quickly figured a way to incorporate these elements of a floating stepped pyramid over some kind of op art with an outer space background.
I started constructing the circular logo. I had the type, the general idea, and just needed to put everything together in a way that worked.
The solution that worked for the text best that I found was stretching the widest part of the text down to have lines going towards a vanishing point. This added depth and 3d space that complimented the pyramid nicely.
I was in the weeds with this one for a while. I added stars, and made a circular pattern that made it look like the pyramid was rising out of a reflective pool of a liquid. Ripples were moving outward from the center point.
After many revisions I arrived at a final design. This was used for reflective stickers, an earplugs case and a patch.
I added texture to it and it looked very nice screenprinted on totebags
